Are you ready to tackle Australia's largest consecutive stair climbing challenge? 

The MCG is one of the largest stadiums on the planet boasting a seating capacity of 100,024.  That's a lot of seats which means a lot of stairs.  

We've designed the Stadium Stomp course to take you around the bays of the MCG containing the longest rows of stairs.  Your journey will take you around the lower and upper levels of the 'G soaking in great views and atmosphere along the way before doing a half lap of the boundary to finish.  If you'd like to learn more about the course click on "The Course" tab above.

The first Stadium Stomp was held at the MCG in June of 2013 to rave reviews.  We look forward to you joining us this year.

We encourage all our participant to fundraise for charity.  You may choose your own charity or our preferred charity in The Leukaemia Foundation.  You can read about them here.  Course Map

The MCG course

The MCG course is Australia's largest consecutive stair climbing challenge with over 7,000 stairs.  Course options available make this event open to all levels of fitness.  There will be rest stops along the way, drink stations scattered throughout the course and music to keep you going.

Full Course - The estimated number of steps for the full course (levels 1 & 4) is approximately 7,343 steps and will take anywhere from 45 minutes up to 2+ hours to complete depending on your fitness level. 

Half Course - The estimated number of steps for the half course (level 1 only) is approximately 1,890 steps and will take around 20 minutes to complete.

What to watch out for:

It's a concrete jungle out there!  The MCG course is full of twists and turns.  Stairs will vary in height, width, gradient and the number of stairs per aisle depending on where you are climbing in the MCG. 

The steepest part of the climb will be in and around the Olympic and Ponsford Stands on Level 4.  Level 1 will be the easiest part of the course with a milder gradient and wide, shallow steps.

Stair Logistics:

Level 1 - 57 bays, 35 steps per bay

Level 4 - 57 bays 83 - 108 steps per bay

Level 4, particularly the Ponsford to Olympic Stands are extremely challenging

Course Instructions (or just let our marshals tell you where to go):

Participants marshal within the concourse area of Gate 1

Participants are staggered released according to wave times allocated

Run around concourse clockwise from bay M37 to M57

Commence stair descent at M57 and climb anticlockwise to M3 approx.

Take ramp from L1 to L4 Great Southern Stand

Climb L4 of Great Southern Stand from Q1 to Q28

Enter Ponsford Stand at Q29 and climb the most challenging part of the course going through the MCC Members Reserve and Olympic Stand until M57

Take ramp down from L4 to L1

Finish with half lap along the boundary line - anticlockwise - finishing near players race at M37

Volunteer at Stadium Stomp MCG

Be part of the most anticipated stair climbing event in the Southern Hemisphere! Become a Cobsmacking Volunteer at Stadium Stomp MCG in 2014!

Being a Cobsmacking Volunteer at Stadium Stomp is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the many different aspects of sports and event management all whilst working at Australia's most iconic sporting venue, the mighty 'G.

As event organisers, we recognise that volunteers are a crucial part of the smooth running and success of the event and we sincerely appreciate everyone who is willing to be involved with Stadium Stomp MCG. 

With various jobs available from marshalling, registrations, set up / pack down, runners, water stations and information desk, there is sure to be a job for you! You will be able to indicate the area that you are most interested in on the application form.

 Event Day Info

Information for Sunday 6 July, 2014


The Event Day Information Booklet is now available to download. All participants will also be emailed the booklet to peruse before event day.  Below is some "at a glance" information to help your event day run smoothly.

The Start/ Arriving

Wave times begin from 8am event day. New waves will commence every 15 minutes thereafter until 1:15pm.  Please arrive 30-45 minutes prior to your wave time to allow time for race bib collection, baggage check in etc. However, you do not need to be at the marshalling area until 15 minutes prior to your wave starting.

Where do I go on arrival?

Please head to Light Tower 6 located between Gates 1 and 2 when you arrive. From here you will easily be able to navigate to the registration area (to collect your bib kits), marshalling area and start line.

Warm-up zone

If you would like to warm up your body before the stomp ahead, a warm up area with some stationary bikes will be located inside Gate 1.

Wave time assembly/ Marshalling area

Please enter the marshalling area no earlier than 15 minutes before your wave time commences.  Your bib number will indicate to us which wave time you should be in and our MC will be on load speaker to call up each wave time to the marshalling area as required. Listen out for these.

Pre-event day bib and t-shirt collection

Pre-event bib collection will be available at the Ticketing window nearest the Hugh Trumble Café located between gates 1 and 2 at the MCG on:

  • Thursday 3 July: 3:00pm - 7:00pm
  • Friday 4 July: 10:00am - 2:00pm

You may also collect on event day from the registration area but be sure to allow extra time for this. All bib kits and t-shirts must be collected by the individual participants.  Multiple bib collection will only be permitted with the expressed written consent of the participant(s) who has/have requested collection of their bib by another individual. This can be done though email, SMS or some other identifying factor which clearly displays the origin of the message to include the participants name. You can speed things up by knowing your bib numbers.

If you ordered an Official Stadium Stomp 2XU Technical Running Tee, these will also be available for collection by the above means. T-shirts are not being posted.

Bag Compound

There will be a bag compound available if needed within the concourse.  Look out for signage on the day and be sure to collect your race bib first as you'll need the tag from your bib to place on your bag.

Transport and car parking
Your best bet is public transport to the MCG.  If catching a train your nearest station is Richmond. Yarra Park (adjacent to the MCG) will not be open for car parking as previously planned due to poor ground conditions. Alternative car parking can be found by clicking here and viewing the interactive map. 

As you finish

You'll get to complete half a lap of the ground by walking, running, or crawling around the MCG boundary line before exiting down the players race.  A good summary of the course can be found by clicking here and reading about Jeremy's trial Stomp. Please climb with care.

Post event extras

Massage

Massage will be available for participants post climb thanks to presenting partner, health.com.au in the Massage Room (located within the players change rooms at the MCG).  Eight massage tables will be available on a first in best dressed basis.

Event Merchandise

Stadium Stomp and 2XU have joined forces to bring you the Official Stadium Stomp 2XU Technical Running Tee.  Stock of these tees will be available for purchase at the event day expo. Look out for the stand.

Event Day Expo

Participants, family and friends are welcome to wander through the event day Expo located within the MCG (near bag compound area)

Event Photos

Official event photographs will be taken by Super Sports Images on the course and at the finish line.  These will be available for purchase post event via their website (www.supersportimages.com.au).  Allow two days post event for these to become available.

Event Day Food

The Hugh Trumble cafe near the marshalling area will be open to purchase food and beverages within the MCG or alternatively head to Hilton on the Park opposite the 'G. Hilton on the Park is offering a special event day breakfast buffet until 11am for participants, family and friends at $22 per person. You'll need to book in advance for this deal.  You can do this here.

Accommodation

Hilton on the Park is Stadium Stomp MCG's Official Accommodation Partner.  Ideally located directly opposite the MCG, Hilton on the Park-Melbourne allows easy access to the venue on event morning, especially if you have an early wave time! The hotel will be offering 20% off the best available rate to stomp participants. Click here to access the deal.

Spectators

Spectators will be allowed FREE entry to the MCG (subject to the MCG's entry conditions).  A designated area is assigned for spectators (click here to see map)
